I have a flickr account which at this point I mostly use just to favorite other people's art works. One of my favorite artists of the moment is Camila de Rosario whose illustrations are beautiful to say the least. I love her use of color, patterns and collage. Summer has arrived which means I have a whole bunch of time to scour the internet in search of inspiration. Since I'm sketching a lot again (finally) I've been looking at mainly fashion inspiration, mainly a lot of old pictures/patterns of stuff from the 1920's-1940's that make me want to jump in the nearest time machine and travel back a few decades.

After working for the Daily Californian for an entire semester I finally got my name in print! Yay for special issues that take until 3:30am to complete the night before your 8 am final.....But this makes it almost worth it :)

Books I'd rather be reading instead of studying for finals. I'll take Kelly Cutrone & Chelsea Handler over Hobbes & Rousseau any day.

Ps. I have never read Catcher In the Rye....GASP I know. We'll try to fix that this summer.

I've been playing around with my Grandma's old film camera as of late and really like the quality of some of the photos. There's a certain dream-like aspect to film that you just can't get with digital....here are some of my favorites:

MET Gala 2010 Fashion Favorites

So the MET Gala happened which means I now get to lust over all of the stunning outfits worn on the red carpet. I know lust is a vice and all but I just can't help it, and if I'm going down I'm taking you with me so here are a few of my favorites from the night. Try to keep the drooling to a minimum mmk?

Everyone seems to be gravitating more towards pastels/pale earth tones these days including myself. I'm in love with the soft beige in both Kate Bosworth & Sarah Jessica Parker's dresses. And of course I had to sneak in the gold jump suit. I just couldn't help myself. And all the bare backs! Fab-u-lous.

oh my...

So, as it turns out, writing album reviews is hard. Really hard. I'm working on a writing sample for an internship I'm applying for to work for a music-related magazine and it's taking me FOREVER to get out something I'm proud of enough to send in. The album of choice is The Winter of Mixed Drinks by one of my favorites, Frightened Rabbit. I think the hard part for me at this point is that I have a lot to say about them but I can't manage to get it out of my brain and onto paper in a way that sounds good and gets my point across. I'm kind of at a "loss for words" (hah-i know, who woulda thunk it) and it's starting to take up more of my time than I thought. Is this what writing music reviews is always like? Does it get easier? I hope so. Otherwise I'm not really sure if applying for this internship is something I'd really like to do.  I love music, and talking with others about music, but talking is much easier than writing a coherent blurb about your favorite band of the moment.

Sigh.

In other news: I adopted a fish today. His name is Baldasar and he is a male betta. He is b-e-a-utiful and I will take some pictures of him as soon as I get him into his proper living quarters. Aka a new glass bowl that I shall procure tomorrow during my errands. Also, gym memberships rule. I went for about a year without going to the gym regularly and now that I've started again I have definitely caught the gym bug. It just feels so great to do something so wonderful for yourself. And the endorphins aren't bad either ;).
Also: THIS WEATHER IS SO BEAUTIFUL. I have a beach date on Saturday and I could not be more excited. I can't believe summer is almost here! And this summer = my 21st birthday which, needless to say, I'm a wee bit excited about.
Alright, I guess I better get back to my review writing attempts. Wish me luck! And if anyone has some handy dandy editing skills up their sleeves, don't be afraid to let me know, I'd love to have a second pair of eyes give me some fresh insight.

Sleep is calling as I'm writing this with bleary half-opened eyes but I just had to share my excitement with the internet. New projects! New Ideas! A collective in the making! So much to look forward to. Life has the meaning you give it and I'm starting to create mine. Stay tuned because there's lots in store.

So as we all know, I love design and music. So natttuuurally my love of the concert poster is immense. Here are a few of my favorites found in recent weeks. If I can figure out somewhere to take a printing class I might even bust out a few of my own. Oh the possibilities....

So one thing I've noticed about myself over the years is that I have a whoooolleee lotta ideas and ambitions. Great right? Right. Only, I let these ideas come and go without actually taking any action most of the time. A whole lotta talk and notta lotta action. And thus we have reached this blog entry. I'm going to make a MASSIVE LIST of all the things I want to do over the next few days/weeks/months/years/until i die...and I shall document in some way/shape/form the doings of these things here! And I expect you to hold me to them. Alright? Alright.

1. Guitar. You have one. You got it for you birthday 2(?) years ago and since then have learned how to sorta kinda maybe perhaps if I really had to in a life/death situation play one song (Bad Moon Rising). Play more! Learn how to write your own schtuff! Which brings us to...
2. Voice lessons. My lovely mother has already found out about some places you could take them so doooo eeeeetttt.
3. Make. A. Zine. You already have the remnants of zines you've started and never finished in the path so just choose one, finish it, make 100 copies and spread them around. Doesn't sound so hard when you put it that way.
4. Find a fabulous internship/job with some publicity/public relations/event planning place. Do work. Make $$$$. Dolla dolla bills ya'll
5. Read every night. Somewhere in the past 15 years of schooling I forgot how to read on a regular basis beyond required reading for class (which, let's be honest, I don't really do).
6. Make a film! My camera has amazing HD recording capabilities and I don't use them! BLASPHEMY.

Alright, so it's short as of now (4.28.10) but I will be sure to add to it as time goes on.
As for now: Ready, set, GO!!! (alright, maybe I'll sleep first...)

dear hype machine, i love you

So today's rainy weather has provided me with the perfect opportunity to laze about and obsessively click through all of Hype Machine's "popular" music in search of something new to add to my library. The result? This semi-scattered short playlist of songs I've found thus far...I'm going to attempt to start my podcast sometime in the next week so I'm sure some of these will make a second appearance but for now this is what I've got!

Now turn up the speakers and get ready to bust out some solo dance moves alone in your room away from the windows so as to avoid any embarrassing neighbor encounters...or maybe that's just me.

Alas! The transition to blogger has arrived. For all of you who have been reading my blog over on wordpress.com you'll know that I'm very into the aesthetics of things and therefore got tired of not being able to find a layout that I felt fit the look I'm going for with the blog and so IM BACK! And Blogger, I will never leave you again. I'm so sorry to have faltered in my judgement there for a moment, please forgive me. I hope we can get past this minor blip in our relationship. I sense good things in our future. And thus we begin a new blogger adventure! TALLY HO!
